You know they say (“they” being those people who seem to always know everything) that the way to have a “successful” blog (meaning – a blog that might actually make some money one day) is to write good content (that a lot of people find interesting) and – most importantly – write CONSISTENTLY. Well……let’s just say that my blog will probably never make a lot of money. I just don’t seem to have the “consistently” part down yet. I can do a lot of things consistently – like eat (chocolate), sleep, even brush my teeth, but those “other” things like exercise, eat (right), and write in my blog – well, I’m still working on those! But here I am again!
And I have to give my husband some well-deserved props! We have lived in our house for 18 years next month, and – although we’ve planted a few flowers in the back yard next to the pool a few times – we’ve never had anything that would actually continue to look good. (It’s crazy how those things just continue to need water….. – again, not great with the consistency…) But THIS time, my husband and sons really went all out for Mother’s Day! My hubby did the whole drawing out the space thing, took it to a local place here in Tallahassee (Shout out to Esposito’s!!) and THIS time…..things WILL be different! I WILL water consistently and prune and trim and take care of these little lovelies because they look really pretty and – probably the bigger drive behind my newfound attention – they were pretty darn expensive, and I can’t let that money go to waste!
So, even though flowers might not necessarily normally qualify as “cute,”I still thought I’d share. I’m almost embarrassed to show you all the “before” pictures:
Pretty sad, right? Ummm…..it’s okay. You can say it….MAJORLY SAD. I know. I’m ashamed. But hey! Don’t we all have moments in time when things get a little out of hand and look downright horrible? We don’t?!! Well, “I” do, and some of you who are saying you don’t, well….you actually DO. And it’s okay! That just makes it all the more fun and wonderful when you turn the horrible into something really nice! Here are my after pics:
So, yeah….quite a difference, huh? First we had to buy some dirt. DIRT. We had to PAY for DIRT. Something just doesn’t quite seem right about that. But, anyway…my hubby and son filled the spaces with dirt because the deck was so much higher, every time it rained, those spaces would just turn into little curvy pools. After the dirt (that we paid for), my hubby took a drawing of the space to the flower place (Esposito’s if you live here in Tallahassee, FL) and spoke to a wonderful lady there named Laura. She helped us pick out the best plants for the spots based on how much sun exposure, whether we wanted perennials or annuals, etc. All of this was new to me. My basic “landscaping” requirements in the past was…..Oh, this is pretty! Let’s get it! Apparently, there are other things you need to consider…..So after that, we purchased the plants, and my sons and hubby planted them, and TA-DA! Not only the plants, but I also had the house and pool deck power washed AND bought new patio cushions. If you happen to like those, click on the pics to visit Houzz.com where I purchased mine. Be sure and shop around! I almost always find something I’m looking for in a variety of places, and the prices are often vastly different! Don’t spend more than you have to (unless you have money you don’t know what to do with……if that’s the case, then buy them on the first site you find them).
I hope you enjoyed this post. If any of you would like to know any more information about any of the flowers we used, just comment, and I’l be happy to tell you lots about each one! (Not because I know or remember, but because I saved all of the little cardboard thingies sticking in the plants so I could refer back to them whenever necessary.) 🙂
Take care, and hopefully, you’ll hear from me again SOON!
